The trials of redesigning a senior care content site
I am in the process of updating our website. Whimper. Sigh. Wail. As much as I love this whole process of creation, I have to restrain myself from poking a stick in my own eye as I tackle this again for my own business.
Yes, I am slightly red-faced as I write this… I am the like the shoemaker who neglects her own shoes. (Well, shoes are a bad example in my case. While I’m no Carrie Bradshaw, I never neglect my shoes.)
I am fortunate that our business grew so quickly —there are four of us now planning, researching, writing, editing and optimizing for our clients. It has been such a fun and exciting year! Thank you to all of our friends and clients who helped to make it happen for us.
The downside is that while we’ve been helping all of you create quality content that rocks the search engine results pages AND engages families, we never perfected the design of our own site. While I am proud to say we rank really, really well for our keywords…(aw shucks…since you asked…we are usually #1 in the SERPS for senior care content, assisted living content, senior living content, senior living copywriting) …our site doesn’t look like I want it to look. I am fearful of making any changes that might compromise our rankings, but anxious to finally have a site that reflects our corporate personality. Sound familiar to any of you?
Our site does reinforce what I like to think of as the Senior Care Content Psalm 1: Quality Content is the Best SEO.
I have thought about what I’d like our site to be. What story I want it to tell. What personality I want to shine through.
Here is what I’ve come up with:
- Credible
- Unique
- Relevant
- Useable
- Shareable
- Consistent
- Interesting
- Context
- Innovative
- Knowledgeable
- Smart
- Fun
Above all, the site will be our industry’s real hub of information on senior care content. Delivered with the sense of humor the wacky chicks at The Senior Care Specialists are known for now.
So if you run in to me in the next few months and I’m missing a few fingernails or you see bite marks on my arms, no worries. You will know I’m still working on our site. Just keep the sharp objects out of my reach please!
