If you are tapped in to social channels, you are probably already aware that today is the 2nd annual Giving Tuesday (#GivingTuesday). Last year more than $10 million was raised on this day. How cool is that? After all the overindulging most of us did last week this is a great opportunity to give back.
In my home state of Michigan, Eminem is helping drive donors to Wolverine Human Services. As of now (Tuesday at 2:50 pm) they have already raised over $47,000. In just one day! The rapper will match those gifts dollar for dollar up to $100,000.
Another favorite client of ours has chosen the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation for Parkinson’s Research as their beneficiary today. They feel like they have seen an uptick in the number of their own residents who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s over the past few years and want to help.
I received an email from one of my favorite Harvard professors this morning asking me to remind people that Harvard School of Public Health relies on donations to fund their work.
If you are looking for organizations that focus on supporting older adults and aging issues, here are a few to consider:
AARP Foundations’ Drive to End Hunger – With over 9 million older adults at risk of going hungry every day, this is a great cause to support.
Honor Flight Network – This organization brings veterans to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at our nation’s memorials. There is no cost for veterans.
Alzheimer’s Association – No surprise here right? Almost all of us have lost a grandparent or other loved one to this impossible disease.
Meals on Wheels Association of America – Another great organization devoted to helping bring nutritious meals to seniors.
Whatever you can do, whether it is a cash donation or giving of your time, please pick a charity and pitch in today!
