What are the fastest growing demographics for each social media platform?
- For Twitter, 55 to 64 year olds. Up 79% since 2012!
- On Facebook, it looks like some of the “I’ll never join FB crowd” changed their mind. 45-54 year olds are up 46%.
- Google+ is also being adopted by 45-54 year olds. Up 56%.
Wondering about mobile-only users?
- They account for 36% of Facebook’s ad revenues.
- 189 million Facebook users access only through a mobile device.
What about LinkedIn, you ask?
I know…I know… we are seriously annoyed by their sneaky, spammy ways of late too. But it must be working for them. Two new members join LinkedIn every second! And –no– we couldn’t find any stats on how many people leave because of the spam stuff each second. If you find that number though, we’d love to see it!

Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook have the most active users.
Blogging is a standard practice for brands. 62% of them have a blog now.
Tweets with one or two #hashtags get the best results. No hashtags probably means you are getting lost and three or more hashtags makes you an #AnnoyingHashtagAbuser.
People EXPECT customer service to respond on Facebook and/or Twitter. Check my Twitter posts (@ShelleyInPR) and you will see. Thumbs up for White House Black Market customer service… thumbs down for the Invisible Customer Service team at FedEx.
Best time to tweet for your brand? Surprise…Weekends are best! The next best time is Monday – Thursday early afternoon
Tweet a pic or a link or neither?
- Tweets with photos are 2x more likely to engage followers.
- Tweets with a link 86% more likely to earn a RT.
Tweet lengths are important.
Keep them 100 characters or less if you aren’t including a link. 120-130 with a link.
