Now that the senior care industry is beginning to embrace content marketing and social media, the wolves are coming out of the woods searching for more than Little Red Riding Hood.
We hear horror stories several times a week from providers who have had a bad experience with a black hat SEO company, people selling links or followers, and much more.
Unfortunately, even a few well known senior care marketing agencies have tried unsuccessfully to make the transition from offline success to online and led providers down an expensive and unprofitable path.
Quality Senior Care Content Marketing 101
So here is the quick and dirty on what not to pay for in senior care content marketing…
- Don’t Pay for Links: Just don’t. We know there are still people out there hawking them and promoting the benefits. It doesn’t help and it can actually hurt.
- Don’t Pay for Followers: The idea of buying Friends or Followers on Facebook or Twitter doesn’t make much sense when you understand why social media signals are important. The idea is to attract and engage the right kinds of followers. You will be rewarded in search (and in conversions!) for creating quality senior care content. Having a bunch of people who aren’t engaged doesn’t really help.
- Say “No” to Content Mills: We know it is tempting to go with the least expensive proposal when you need to outsource your content marketing. There are a few content mills that have popped up and are creating a stir. As is true with anything in life, you get what you pay for. You may save money in the short run, but you are essentially buying an article that wasn’t great to start with and has since been written, re-written and regurgitated for every senior care client that company has. They may change a few words here and there but it isn’t original content and there isn’t a real strategy behind the article. A quick tip is to Google the companies you are considering and read the reviews from past employees. Those will tell the real tale about who would be writing your articles, what senior care experience they have and how the content mill really works. It’s a grind…and it doesn’t work.
And the scoop on what to pay for…
Say “Yes” to spending money when you need help creating a true content marketing strategy that includes social media and for experienced senior living and home care writers to develop original, high quality content. Even if you have to settle for less content to stay on budget.
Higher quality always beats higher quantity.
