Loading Your Senior Living Facebook Content
One thing we’ve discovered over the past few years is that if more than one or two of our clients ask the same question, there are quite a few more that wonder but won’t ask.
For the record – we love it when you ask us questions! Especially ones that we don’t know the answer to. They force us to learn new “stuff.”
Last week we had two clients ask how they should add links to their Facebook posts. Good question! And one Facebook weighted in on last fall.
Remember all those spammy link bait photos that used to fill up your News Feed on Facebook? You know the ones.
You would see a photo and headline on a nice little recipe for a Sweet Tea Vodka Lemonade and click on it to get the scoop. Suddenly you found yourself in the middle of some kind of crazy website that had not one little thing to do with Sweet tea, lemonade or vodka.
In an effort to get a grip on that nonsense, Facebook cracked down. They made it clear that posts with native links would score you a better showing in the News Feed.
Here’s what they had to say word-for-word without any spin:
“We’ve found that people often prefer to click on links that are displayed in the link format (which appears when you paste a link while drafting a post), rather than links that are buried in photo captions. The link format shows some additional information associated with the link, such as the beginning of the article, which makes it easier for someone to decide if they want to click through. This format also makes it easier for someone to click through on mobile devices, which have a smaller screen.
With this update, we will prioritize showing links in the link-format, and show fewer links shared in captions or status updates.
The best way to share a link after these updates will be to use the link format. In our studies, these posts have received twice as many clicks compared to links embedded in photo captions. In general, we recommend that you use the story type that best fits the message that you want to tell – whether that’s a status, photo, link or video.”

So the bottom line is this…
- Add your description to your Status Update
- Then paste the URL to the article or post you want to share in
- Click Publish or Schedule
- You are done
Wasn’t that easy?
