The only constant in Google-land is change. From algorithm updates like Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird to RankBrain, the fine folks at Google are always working to improve users’ search experience. The most recent one involves a Google character limit change.
If you are responsible for creating assisted living content for your company’s website, this is a change you need to know about.
Our senior care writers are psyched about this change: Google has expanded the number of characters we can use in our Title tags and Meta descriptions!
Here’s the skinny:
- Title Tag: The one that has us the most excited is the title tag. The Google character limit for titles went from 50/60 up to 70/71. For writers trying to create a compelling title, that means we can use one or two more words.
- Meta Description: This is one we are still a little wary of. The Google character limit for these little descriptions went from a range of 150-160 up to 278. They expanded the meta description from two lines to three. But not all search results are displaying three lines yet. So exercise caution on this one for now.
Are these Google character limits here to stay? One can only guess.
