Keeping our website updated is a lot like maintaining a hair style. Every month or two we take a little off the top and clean up around the edges. We might tweak a few things, but nothing too crazy. That’s the SCS approach anyway.
But once a year, usually in late August, we take a deep dive and make sure our site is more man lob or even man bun than mullet.
You know what I mean by mullet right?
Business in the front and party in the back. Outdated and just kind of… unattractive.
While we are planning to do a major re-branding in the first quarter of 2017 as we celebrate our 5th anniversary, we know it’s still important to pull out the razor and cut off the party in the back.
Avoiding the Content Mullet
Wondering what you might need to do to avoid the content mullet?
Here are a few tips:
- Block out some quiet time: Yep… easier said than done. I hear ‘ya. But your goal should be to dig in to your site and see what looks dated. While there is such a thing as evergreen content in senior living, sometimes content just looks old.
- Make a list of necessary changes: Whether it’s in an Excel spreadsheet or on the back of a 100% recyclable Whole Foods brown bag from your salad bar lunch, the idea is to create a big old list of what needs updating.
- Prioritize the changes: If you haven’t done this before, it can be a bit overwhelming. But once you have your list, prioritize which changes you need to make first. Then tackle a few a week until your list is completed.
