Show of hands… who out there misses Mad Men?
Ditto!
And it’s not just because Jon Hamm is so… Jon Hamm.
It’s because advertising, PR and marketing all looked so cool through the lens of Mad Men.
Seriously – bourbon carts in the office? And drinking it before breakfast??
Not to mention the fog of smoke from all those cigarettes everyone smoked all. day. long.
It’s a miracle a single ad ever made it out of that place
And every now and then Don Draper would come up with a legit Draperism that really made you think.
Changing the Senior Living Conversation
We had calls from a few folks last week who aren’t our current clients. Both were struggling with some unfortunate events and bad word of mouth.
They were bemoaning the fact that the media seems to focus on the negatives. And on positioning senior living communities as “homes old people go to die.”
While our industry does take a battering sometimes, we can change the conversation. Tell our own stories. Show how communities improve quality of life for residents, families and staff.
Look around you…
There are positive senior living stories everywhere. You have the ability – and possibly the obligation – to tell them.
Here are just a few every single senior living community out there should be telling:
- How improving a senior’s nutrition through your dining services program literally turned an older adult’s life around
- How the physical plant of your assisted living community protects a senior who experienced repeated falls at home alone
- How a previously lonely and isolated older adult is thriving in an environment where they are surrounded by peers
- How life enrichment activities improve quality of life and nurture the body, mind and spirit
- How an daughter can be a daughter to her mother again instead of a worn out and weary caregiver on the verge of a health crisis of her own
And then there are the unique stories you could tell. How about the 90 year old chap who just graduated from an online college? Or the resident who stormed the beaches at Normandy? Or the grandmother who took on bullying in her grandkids school?
Make it your mission to tell better stories. Change the conversation and stereotypes about our industry. Share them on your blog. On your social channels. And in your online Newsroom.
If you need help polishing those great stories up, shoot us a note. Our editors will be happy to help!
P.S. Did you notice we have an all-new site? Take some time to prowl around and let us know what you think!!
