The day our senior living editors think of as Christmas and Hanukkah all rolled in to one is upon us. I’m talking National Grammar Day folks… celebrated annually on March 4th. This year we are dubbing it our Grammar Revolution kick off.
Yep… it really is a thing.
National Grammar Day is the day we celebrate the #nerds in our office! The crew who makes sure every one of our “secret sauce” blog requirements is met and that the grammar in each post we create for clients is ship shape.
We’ve celebrated this day for a few years now. Our editors have shared some of their favorite tips in past posts on our blog including:
- The Senior Care Grammar Police
- The World Celebrates National Grammar Day
- Get Your Grammar On and Celebrate National Grammar Day
This year, with everyone from the Secretary of the Department of Education (gasp!) to the White House (bigger gasp!) tweeting out and posting content riddled with misspellings and flat out poor grammar, we thought it was more important than ever to hit the pause button and talk grammar… start a Grammar Revolution of our own.
Grammar Revolution and Senior Living Digital Presence
If you are creating your own senior living blog articles and guides for your site, don’t forget to have at least one additional set of eyes reviewing everything before it is posted. It is really tough to edit your own work.
And we all know what happens when you rely on spell check to catch mistakes… public relations becomes pubic relations and suddenly you are blogging in a whole other genre…
The most common mistakes we see on senior living websites and social platforms include:
- Mistakes with their, they’re and there – social media is riff with this one!
- Improper use of effect and affect – look ’em both up if you have doubts
- Crazy overuse of commas – seriously…what is this new trend with using commas everywhere?
- Run-on sentences that are literally a whole paragraph long -you lose the online reader when you do this
- Speaking of “literally” are you using it when you really should be using figuratively?
- Punctuation – ugh – it can be tricky. Here’s a great resource for learning more about punctuation…
Did you know National Grammar Day has a martini? Yep. And it’s not one we made up. So whip up a batch and hunker down with a great grammar book on March 4th.
Maybe even create your own grammar protest march song like the sponsors of National Grammar Day did. Okay… we admit it. Theirs isn’t a very catchy tune. Maybe blast this great revolution anthem by Gil Heron instead?
And drop us a line if you need editing work for your senior living content. We’ve got just the crew for you!
