Blog Post Frequency
How frequently should you post to your senior living blog?
This is a question we receive almost every week. And, quite honestly, it’s always been a difficult one to answer. Primarily because Google hasn’t been very straight up in providing answers.
We know that Google likes fresh content to be added to your site often.
As a blog reader, I do too. When I’m researching almost anything —from retractable awnings for our new patio to how often we need to seal our pergola—I want answers from a site that doesn’t look like it’s been abandoned.
The Panda update drove home the need to focus on quality. All those duplicate content sites that were crazy spammy bit the dust. Quality is clearly a priority with Google.
Then we got something that could be described as a real scoop from Search Engine Roundtable last week. They shared a Twitter interaction that happened between Google’s John Mueller (@JohnMu) and another Twitter user.
What Google Says About Publishing Frequency
The Twitter user asked:
“Do Google’s algorithms take into account the frequency/volume/schedule of publishing new content for a site? Say a site publishes 5 new URLs daily but then begins to publish 2-3 instead. Does that make Google looks differently at the site?”
His concern sounded like he wanted to decrease their frequency a bit without being penalized.
Google’s John Mueller replied:
“Nope. A site isn’t a machine that pumps out content at a fixed rate. Well, it shouldn’t be :-).”
I realize that’s a bare bones reply, but it is… Google. They often don’t comment at all.
So, how does that help you plan your senior living content strategy?
Primarily by digging into what we’ve been saying here at SCCS for years: quality senior living content matters.
You need to have writers with senior living experience who can connect with the fears, questions, and concerns families have. It’s as simple —-and as complicated—as that.
