Is your senior living content making your site look a fright?
Sometimes we run across conversations on social media that are so honest and frank we kinda cringe just a bit…
It’s especially true on Twitter where all the tech folks seem to hang out.
Here’s an example…
It’s not the greatest quality of screen shot, for sure. So here’s the convo in a nutshell…
A news publisher tweets at John Mu from Google to see why his site isn’t ranking. He says they are pumping out loads of content.
John nicely replies with “Just putting out more content doesn’t necessarily make a site better.”
Other tech folks aren’t quite so kind… calling the publisher out for a site that loads far too slowly and is “an eyesore.”
How Can You Keep Your Senior Living Site from Looking a Fright?
We’ve talked ad nauseam about the importance of good, quality senior living content. It will make or break your site.
Good content will help you rank high and allow families to find you. Bad content will make your site as invisible as a ghost…
So the first thing you need to do is take a good hard look at the quality of your senior living content.
Are you publishing just because your SEO crew said you had to churn out new content frequently?
They are right, but only if you can publish high quality blog articles, white papers, guides, and checklists that are informative, educational, or entertaining.
Google’s Panda update a few years ago put the smack down on low-quality sites, while rewarding those with good quality content.

Other Important Ranking Factors
There are plenty of other reasons your site isn’t ranking well. A few include:
- Speed: Folks are impatient and getting more so every day. Most are using mobile devices to access your senior living sites. If it doesn’t load quickly, they are jumping back to the search results page and finding a senior living site build for speed.
- Mobile friendly: We still run across senior living websites that aren’t mobile-friendly. Google is indexing mobile first, so it’s important to make sure your site is mobile-friendly.
- Poor functionality: Is your site user-friendly? Is the navigation simple and straight forward? Remember, your target market is older adults and their adult children. Sometimes the adult children are in their 60s or even a little older. Make sure the site is easy on aging eyes.
- Technical issues: Has anyone ever done an audit to look at the technical side of your site? Things go wrong and things break. It’s just the way it is. It’s important to have someone check things out to make sure your senior living site is cooking on all cylinders, technically speaking.
- Senior living jargon: Are you turning people off with a site full of industry jargon? We hear that often from families offline, and it applies online too. It’s second nature to those of us who’ve worked in the industry for any length of time. Ask someone outside the industry to review your site and provide you with some feedback.
- Optimized content: Keywords and phrases matter. While a site stuffed full of keywords won’t make Google a fan of your site, it is important to use key phrases and synonyms.
