In mid- November, the Wall Street Journal published what seemed to be a blockbuster story on Google search algorithms.
I say seemed to be because…well…the authors got a lot wrong. At least according to leading search experts.
Google vs. Wall Street Journal
From blacklists to using sub-contractors to shape what you see, WSJ lobbed some pretty serious accusations in Google’s direction.
Of the many problems we found with the article, one was that it was obvious the authors lacked a basic understanding of how search works.
That makes it tough to take anything else in the article very seriously.
Then there is the fact that the authors just don’t seem to be anything credible to back up these accusations .
Since the WSJ article was published, we’ve had more than a few emails and phone calls from clients asking us to weigh in.
While we aren’t SEO experts, we do work with them frequently and we are SEO-certified copywriters.
So we do have a pretty good understanding of how search works.
We thought it was important to share a link to the article, as well as the best rebuttal to it we found from a credible source. Then you can decide for yourself.
You’ll find the Wall Street Journal article here.
And a great article on what the WSJ authors got wrong here.
