At the start of the holiday season every year, we send you an email listing the charitable organizations we donated to on your behalf. We appreciate our clients, and it’s our way of thanking you for your continued partnership.
This year, that list is short and much more personal.
Mucinous ovarian cancer (MOC) is just as aggressive as it is uncommon. In September of 2019, my lifelong best friend and sister, Rhonda, was one of the unlucky ones to develop it. In October of this year, complications from her disease and the related treatment took her from us very unexpectedly.
Launching a Foundation
Rhonda exemplified everything that is good. Vivacious and kind, she always saw the bright side of things. She never asked, “Why me,” even on the toughest days. In fact, when she was diagnosed with this awful disease at such a young age, she made it her mission to help other women. Just six weeks before we lost her, the Mucinous Ovarian Cancer Coalition launched. It was a great source of pride to her.
The goals of the foundation are threefold: to raise money for research, to connect women with resources to better understand MOC, and to lend financial and emotional support to women living with the disease.
Because Rhonda served as our corporate attorney, she was well known to our staff and some of our clients. When it came time to choose a charity this holiday season, there was no doubt where our company donation in honor of our clients would go.
On behalf of myself, the SCCS team, and my beloved sister, I wish you and yours the happiest of holidays.
Shelley
