For the second year in a row, we’ve chosen the Mucinous Ovarian Cancer Coalition (MOCC) as our charitable cause. It’s a 501(c)(3) our clients know is dear to our hearts. MOCC was founded by a wonderful lady named Rhonda, who happens to be the late sister of our organization’s CEO. (You can read Rhonda’s story here. And here, too.)
We’ve made a donation to this terrific organization in honor of our great clients.
The Cancer That’s Often Overlooked
Last year we shared more about the organization’s history and mission. This time around, we felt like it was important to talk about the subtle signs that may be early indicators of this tough disease.
Since the vast majority of our clients are female, we felt an obligation to talk about the red flags.
Mucinous Ovarian Cancer is rare and very unique from other types of the disease.
What they all have in common is there is absolutely no screening test that will detect it.
While this particular type can be treated with surgery if caught early enough, it often isn’t. Unlike other forms of ovarian cancer, it is more common in women under the age of 40.
When women do recognize something is wrong and see their doctor, ovarian cancer typically isn’t on the physicians radar because of their age.
Early Warning Signs of Ovarian Cancer
That’s why we must be our own health advocates and keep seeking answers, even when it means changing doctors.
Here are some of the signs to be mindful of and share with your physician if you develop them.
Join the Fight!
Finally, we’d like to encourage you to join us in this fight by making a donation to MOCC.
It’s exciting to be able to say that 100% of all funds raised go toward research and quality of life initiatives for women with the disease.
Volunteers and family support allows the agency to cover all of it’s expenses without using any donor money.
Every dollar helps the fight. You can make a tax-deductible, online gift here.
We wish each of you the happiest of holidays and a prosperous, healthy, and joy-filled new year…
