The competition for page one on the senior living search engine results page is intense. Especially since the pandemic began and more providers turned their attention to digital marketing.
In the past we’ve shared stats on why you need to be on page one. Like 25% of searchers click on the first search result presented on the first page. And less than 3% of searchers make it down to the 10th spot.
Page one is undoubtedly the place to be when it comes to getting noticed and connecting with seniors and their families.
So, why are we saying page two could present you with an opportunity in the New Year?
There’s a method to our madness. Here’s what it is…
Pumping Up Your Position in Search Results
Unlike the pages on your site that don’t rank or don’t rank well, page two means you have an opportunity for improvement.
Most of you know content marketing and SEO are a marathon not a sprint in a crowded industry like ours.
But doing a deep dive of pages on your site that make it to the second page of Google can still yield results.
The key is to objectively evaluate your page and those ranking ahead of yours.
We know a lot of the page one real estate gets gobbled up by ads, lead generator sites, and referral services, but there is still an opportunity for you to rank well.
Here are a few steps you can take to pump up your position on the search engine results page.
- Is the content out of date? Updating it can give the page more authority and better results.
- Is the content helpful and well written? If the copy is tough to understand or riddled with typos and misspellings, you might be getting dinged.
- Is the page optimized for relevant keyphrases? This is a common reason for not making it to page one.
- Is the page title representative of the content? Many people don’t realize how important it is that your copy delivers on what the title suggest. Your bounce rate goes up when it doesn’t. That hurts your rank.
- Is the copy on the page easy to read? It’s essential to have fonts and font sizes that are senior-friendly, as well as subheads, photos, and white space to break up big blocks of copy.
- Is the navigation obvious? It’s frustrating to have to waste time figuring out how to find your way around a website.
Finally, take a hard look at those ranking ahead of you. What are they doing that you aren’t? If you struggle with this task, round up a few people in your target audience and ask them for their honest feedback. They’ll likely spot issues you miss.
