Can you believe the holidays are upon us again? Already! Where did 2023 go?
That sounds like something the older generation says… is it? Maybe we spend too much time writing for seniors …
Senior Living Client Thank You
If you’ve been with us for a while, you may remember that we do a year-end charitable donation as a THANK YOU to our senior living clients and subscribers.
In the past we’ve donated to agencies ranging from the Alzheimer’s Association to Mobile Meals of America.
Then, three years ago, that changed. After a year-long battle with a rare type of ovarian cancer that doesn’t respond well to treatment, we lost one of our own.
Rhonda was our legal counsel and accounting advisor. And the beloved sister of our Founder/CEO, Shelley.
Just weeks before Rhonda’s unexpected passing, she and Shelley and a gang of loved ones launched the Mucinous Ovarian Cancer Coalition/MOCC.
Now, every year during the holidays, we donate to MOCC in honor of Rhonda and all of our clients/subscribers.
Learn More About Mucinous Ovarian Cancer
MOCC has a primary goal of funding research on this deadly form of an already difficult-to-beat disease.
Each year in September, on Rhonda’s birthday, MOCC announces the winner of a research grant in amounts up to $50,000. It’s called Rhonda’s Award. Recipients have been scientists as far away as Australia.
Throughout the year, the all-volunteer organization also offers other programs and services to support women battling this disease and their families.
From connecting women with GYN oncologists who have experience treating this form of the disease to sending spirit-boosting care packages, MOCC works hard to help improve outcomes and quality of life.
Help Raise Awareness
Because the senior living industry is made up of a predominantly female workforce, we encourage you to share this email with your colleagues. It could help save a life.
Most women are surprised to learn there is no screening test for detecting ovarian cancer early. None. Nada. Zilch.
Your yearly check-up is important, but you won’t be screen for ovarian cancer. Because there is no test. Yep, we realize that we are repeating ourselves. But it’s important to read that.
And that’s why it’s vital to learn the subtle, often-overlooked warning signs of the disease, and to be your own advocate.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking #ItsProbablyNothing.
If your doctor doesn’t listen, find a new doctor. Ask for a referral to a specialist.
Also, don’t make the mistake of thinking ovarian cancer is an older woman’s disease. MOCC has helped women as young as 15 and 16.
Donate to MOCC
You can join the fight by making a donation, too. Or by hosting a fundraiser at one of your communities or at your corporate office.

Happy Holidays! See you again in 2024!
