Have you noticed Reddit discussions appearing more and more in your search engine results over the last six months or so?
It’s been a hot topic in SEO this year. Almost any topic you search for on Google will include a Reddit link in the results.
At a time when the competition for ranking is beyond ferocious, this might be your opportunity to try something no other provider has tackled yet: adding Reddit to your senior living marketing toolbox.
What Senior Living Discussions are Happening on Reddit?
When we did a deep dive into the types of discussions related to senior living that are taking place on Reddit, we found a wide range.
Basically, any of the key phrases an older adult or family members would enter into a Google search box are there in Reddit discussions and Subreddits.
On Reddit, senior living searchers are seeking advice on:
- What assisted living/independent living is
- How much senior living costs and what is included
- What questions to ask when you tour a community
- How to tell a “good” community from a “bad” one
- The types of staff who are employed
- What residents do all day long in assisted living
- Does memory care really help people with dementia
- How is a senior living community licensed
You get the idea, right?
Folks are using Reddit like a search engine, but one that links them to a community.
That’s why we weren’t all that surprised to see another popular set of discussions regarding senior living communities on Reddit.
Those are topics related to recommendations and reviews.
People ask about specific brands and for advice from people who’ve had firsthand experience with a community.
How helpful would it be to see those discussions? If your brand or community is being talked about, you’ll have an opportunity to see what is being said.
So, how can you get started on Reddit? We pulled together a few resources that we think you’ll find useful.
How Senior Living Brands Can Get to Know Reddit
Let’s start by saying, this is a platform that doesn’t have as many resources for those trying to learn outside of Reddit itself. The biggest piece of advice you’ll hear from regular users is essentially to “lurk and learn.”
Unlike the gobs of experts who write about Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, Reddit receives less attention. But here are a few we found helpful as we were learning and considering how to use Reddit as a brand:
- How to Use Reddit for Beginners: If you like learning via video, we think this is a good one to take a look at. In about 10 minutes, you’ll have a very basic understanding of the platform.
- How 10 Brands Use Reddit for Marketing: We appreciate that this article from HubSpot can help you avoid some of the pitfalls brands make trying to use Reddit. It’s very different from all other types of social media platforms and communities. These tips might help prevent your comments from getting voted down and buried.
- Reddit Marketing: A Guide to Getting It Right: Search Engine Journal is always one of our go-to resources. As we were exploring Reddit, we found this guide to be quite good.
