Can you believe the holidays are upon us once again?
2024 seems to have moved at warp speed…
If you’ve been a client for a while or even if you just follow our blog, you’ve likely read one of our past holiday appreciation posts to our senior care clients and friends.
Giving Thanks to Our Senior Care Clients
Every fall since we launched the Senior Care Content Specialists 13 years ago, we’ve made a charitable donation in honor of our senior care clients.
In the early days, we donated to organizations ranging from food banks serving the senior population to the Alzheimer’s association.
Since 2020, however, our charity of choice has been the Mucinous Ovarian Cancer Coalition/MOCC.
This all-volunteer organization was started by SCCS CEO/Founder, Shelley, and her late sister, Rhonda.
Because our client roster is almost all women working in the aging services industry, we feel like this is an important donation to make each year.
Why a rare form of ovarian cancer, you might be wondering?
Here’s the story…
Raising Awareness About Ovarian Cancer
Rhonda was the SCCS attorney. Her chipper personality and kind spirit made her so much fun to be around.
In the summer of 2019, she went for a routine physical. Some blood work came back troubling. Despite being active and feeling well, her doctors were immediately concerned.
Because she was much younger than the average age a woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which is 62, it wasn’t an early consideration.
But it would eventually prove to be the diagnosis. A rare form that occurs in younger women.
Since so many of those we work with here at SCCS easily fall into the age group this disease targets, we will continue making donations to MOCC.
The Volunteer Team at MOCC Is On A Mission
This all-volunteer organization is filled with Rhonda’s friends and family.
And they are on a mission to find a screening test, treatment options, and eventually, a cure for this mucinous ovarian cancer.
To turn pain into purpose and eradicate this disease.
In just four short years since the all-volunteer nonprofit was launched, the organization has funded $100,000 in research!
We hope you will use this link to take a few minutes today to learn more about the subtle signs of this difficult disease.
In gratitude for your partnership,
Team SCCS
